Wedding Tip | Engagement Photos

I love it when couples choose to do an engagement session!  We all know the traditional reasons for an engagement session…sending out announcements/save the dates.  However, I’ll let you in on a few other reasons you may consider an engagement session that you may not have considered.  The main reason that I love engagement sessions is not only does it give Stehvn and I a chance to know you as a couple, but it also gives the two of you a chance to get comfortable with us and comfortable with being in front of the camera!  This level of comfort and knowing what to expect can make a big difference when your wedding day rolls around…there are enough nerves on your wedding day…your photos shouldn’t be one of the reasons!

The other reason that I love engagement sessions is that they capture you as you are right now.  Casual.  In love.  Enjoying just being together.  Don’t get me wrong…wedding day portraits are priceless!  But there is just something that is so genuine and real about engagement photos that I personally would not want to go without!  They are so wonderful to have to look back on as the years go by.

We’re often in the situation where the wedding that we’re shooting is in Boise but the couple live elsewhere.  This always creates questions about the engagement session…should you take a weekend to come to Boise or should you have us travel to you to do your engagement session?  Though there is no singular answer here things to consider would be time and travel (Do you have the free time to travel to Boise?  Do you want to pay travel fees for the two of you or one photographer?) and your living situation.  Let’s say you live in Seattle.  This is where you met.  This is where you’ve dated and were eventually engaged.  The city is a part of your life together…your engagement photos ought to reflect that!

So there you have it.  Some food for thought as you plan your wedding!  I’m now going to leave you with some past engagement photos to drool over.  OK..maybe you won’t drool over them…but check them out!  We’ve had the chance to work with some pretty rad couples over the past few years!

Wondering what to do with your engagement photos?  Or how to incorporate them into your wedding day without a big, embarrassing display of your lovely faces?  Be sure to stay tuned for our next wedding tips post!  Can you guess what I’m going to post?  It’s one of my favorite engagement photo products!  Give me your best guess in the comments below!
